In Neonatology Unit, diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of newborn patients in the first month of life (non-surgical patients) are done being hospitalized. Neonatal jaundice, neonatal infectious diseases and the problems of premature infants are the most common diseases.

Diagnosis, treatment and follow up of the diseases related to growth and puberty problems in children and adolescents age group, thyroid disease, diabetes mellitus (diabetes), gender ambiguity, metabolic bone disease, obesity, adrenal gland diseases, excessive hair growth and menstrual irregularity are done in this department.

The rash illness of childhood period, febrile and infectious diseases, hospital infections, congenital infections, infectious hepatitis , infections developing children with suppressed immune system congeniitally or depending on the treatment they receive for various reasons , and children carrying acquired immunodeficiency virus (HIV) or whose disease develops are within the scope of modern medicine for children and adolescents in this department

From the neonatal period to adolescence, diagnosis and treatment of children with prolonged or recurrent cough, wheezing as well as the problems as asthma, cystic fibrosis, diseases such as bronchiolitis, sleep disorders, snoring, obstructive sleep apnea syndrome, foreig body etc. in respiratory tract are done. Diagnostove tests performed in the department are respiratory function tests, allergy tests and sweat test. Diagnostic and therapeutic flexible bronchoscopy performed in very few centers,monitoring the tracheostomized children, noninvasive ventilation (BiPAP, CPAP, providing respiratory support without intubation) and home ventilation (respiratory support at home and its monitoring) are being implemented by the department.

The diagnosis and treatment of diseases in the scope of hematology are all anemia (anemia, iron deficiency anemia, vitamin B12 deficiency anemia, etc.), congenital blood disorders (thalassemia, sickle cell anemia and other abnormal hemoglobins), bone marrow failure (aplastic anemia, Fanconi's aplastic anemia, Diamand-Blackfan anemia, idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, neutropenia), childhood leukemia, bleeding diathesis, thrombosis (clotting disorders) and hemophagocytic syndrome.

Team of Pediatric Cardiovascular Surgery consists of , pediatric cardiac surgeons, pediatric cardiologists, pediatric cardiac anesthesia and intensive care specialists, neonatologists, pediatric intensive care nurses and perfusionists who are experts in their fields.

Diagnosis, treatment and follow up of starting from the heart of the unborn child, cardiac diseases of fetus, infants, children and adolescents up to the end of 18 years of age are successfully done. These diseases include mostly congenital heart diseases (holes, stenosis), later developing heart disease (rheumatic heart diseases, infectious diseases) and heart rhythm disorders

Pediatric Neurology Department takes place within the Pediatrics Department and requires working with many side branches such as; neonatology, gastroenterology, cardiology, nephrology, metabolism, genetics etc. Also, collaborates with many departments such as childhood and adolescent mental health, childhood development, neurosurgery, orthopedics, physical treatment and rehabilitation, radiology, nuclear medicine, otorhinolaryngology, ophthalmology, pathology, pediatric surgery, dentistry etc.

Pediatric Neurology Department involves with the neurologic problems of children from birth to the end of the 17 years. Most common diseases encountered in the Pediatric Neurology Department are

  • Seizures and epilepsy
  • Neuromuscular system disorders
  • Congenital progressive metabolic and/or degenerative diseases developing as the result of deficiency or accumulation of some essential elements
  • Multiple sclerosis developing as a result of immune system problems
  • SSPE and neurologic problems

Also, Pediatric Neurology monitors the patients with cerebral palsy and stroke with preterm risky babies.

Diagnosis and appropriate treatments of the epilepsy patients are determined with routine EEG/long term EEG-Video monitoring, 3 Tesla magnetic resonance imaging that slice images can be obtained, functional MR, ictal and inter ictal SPECT and PET examinations.

Urine blood amino ascites, urine organic acid, tandem mass, lactate , private and ammoniac etc. metabolic tests which are necessary for definition of metabolic diseases can be done and karyotype analysis, Duchenne muscular atrophy, myotonic dystrophy, spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), Rett syndrome, metachromatic leuco- dystrophy analyses, Fragile-X chromosome analysis, sub telomere deletion (FISH) analysis, MECP2 mutation, Prader Willi/Angelman methylation analysis, Array-CGH (comparative genomic hybridization) etc. tests in undiagnosed diseases can be done in the contracted genetic laboratories.

In patients with specific learning difficulties, neuro psychometric evaluation appropriate for age and audiology evaluations are being performed to the patients with speech delay and disorder. Risky babies and patients with motor development retardation are taken to early physiotherapy program.

Serves in the field of childhood renal diseases. Urinary tract infection, voiding disorders are quite common in our society. In addition;

Diagnosis and treatment of Common rheumatic disease in childhood, juvenile idiopathic arthritis, familial mediterranean fever, vasculitis and other connective tissue diseases are successfully done.

Infants being started to be monitored from womb are followed up with mental-motor development, nutrition, vaccination, preventive medicine programs. In this department, proper nutrition, growth, development, vaccination programs, all routine childhood diseases are kept under control.
