Nuclear Medicine Center

Thanks to the technological advances in the display and treatment of diseases and physiological events can be visualized at the molecular level and individualized, target-directed therapies are planned.

Nuclear Medicine examinations can be easily performed without giving any hardship to the patient. Required drugs can be used safely in all age groups without causingchange any bodily functions, including renal failure
Medipol University Hospital Nucler Medicine Clinic, PET / CT (16 sections), cardiac gamma camera and SPECT / CT scanners are available.

PET/BT

Giving less radiation, higher resolution and higher quality images are achieved by modern PET / CT system at this clinic.

Cancer cells are investigated on entire body, location, extensiveness, whether they spread to other organs and its character (benign-malignant), the recurrence of the disease, whether there is a response to applied therapy are the questions that are answered with this type of examination. It directs thg treatment by showing the real tumor tissue localization in patients who will be administered radiotherapy. This advanced technology is used also in non-cancer diseases such as brain disorders (dementia and epilepsy etc) and display of heart tissue vitality

Due to the special structure of the device, the patient watches the sky created artificially on the ceiling during the examination. In this way, patients with the claustrophobia (fear of enclosed space) can be performed examination comfortably.

Cardiac Imaging

It is an imaging technique that evaluates the amount of blood reaching the heart muscle helping to understand whether people have coronary artery disease (CAD) or not.

Gamma camera, is a technology specialized only for heart scan. This system which is available only in 3 places in Turkey is separable from other gamma cameras with its high technological infrastructures.

radiation dose that the patients receive is decreased 4 times, the time spent on the device is 4 times shorter (about 3 minutes), and the quality of the images obtained are remarkably increased. The device is spacious and has an open architecture for the comfort of the patient, patients with claustrophobia can easily make use of it.

Following to end of the exercise stress test (exercise or pharmacologic) contrast agent will be injected intravenously. Administered agent can be safely used in all age groups and in renal failure cases.

Labeled Leucocyte Scintigraphy

Labeled leukocyte scintigraphy which Can be performed in limited numbers in Turkey has become a routine clinical practice in the Medipol University Hospital Nuclear Medicine Center. In the center, there is a private room for labeling leukocyte cells. Cell labeling process is done by European standards. Identifying the correct focus of infection is possible with this procedure. Labeled leucocyte scintigraphy, is used in a broad range of patients to determine the focus of infection from fever of unknown origin, the bone and soft tissue infection to infections around prosthesis, metallic implants.

Other Scintigraphies

Availability of SPECT / CT device at Nuclear Medicine Department increases the specificity of many nuclear medicine examinations especially leukocyte scintigraphy, bone scintigraphy, parathyroid scintigraphy and sentinel lymph node examination. This specificity provides more precise and accurate imaging.

  • Bone scintigraphy
  • Dynamic and static renal scintigraphy
  • Sentinel lymph node scintigraphy and intraoperative gamma probing
  • Thyroid and parathyroid scintigraphy
  • Vesicoureteral reflux scintigraphy (direct and indirect)

Diagnosis, treatment and follow-up of thyroid diseases

Nowadays cancer cases are on the rise due to environmental factors and living conditions. Cancers originating from thyroid cancers are diseases that can be treated greatly with early diagnosis.

Radioactive iodine (131I), is one of the best target -oriented treatments used in medicine. This treatment can be used safely when necessary in all age groups including children. Generally, high dose and low dose therapy concept is stirred in society.

Low-dose therapy is administered in the treatment of cancer patients with thyroid disease (<20mci)This treatment does not require hospitalization of the patient. Iodine treatment deactivates the hard work of nodular thyroid gland and the active (hot) nodule without surgery.

Ablation is applied with high doses of iodine after surgery of cancer diseases. In this treatment the patient should stay in the room prepared specifically and followed for two days. The center has two comfortable iodine treatment facilities.
